Muhammad Asif Becomes World Snooker Champion for the Third Time

Pakistan’s cueist, Muhammad Asif, has won the IBSF World Snooker Championship for the third time. In a thrilling final, Asif defeated Asian Champion Ali Ghareghozlou of Iran 3-5 to claim the title.

According to reports from Qatar, Asif continued his outstanding performance throughout the 9-frame final, dominating his opponent and securing the victory. With this win, Asif becomes a three-time World Snooker Champion, equaling India’s Pankaj Advani’s record of winning the World Title three times.

Asif set a new record in the tournament by scoring 6 century breaks. He had earlier defeated Cyprus’s Michael Georgiou 3-5 in an exciting match to reach the final.

The 42-year-old, hailing from Faisalabad, first won the IBSF World Snooker Championship in 2012 and then repeated his success in 2019. Earlier in the tournament, Asif had beaten UAE’s Muhammad Shahab 1-4 to qualify for the final four.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Pakistan Snooker and Billiards Association, Alamgir Sheikh, along with other officials, congratulated Asif on his remarkable victory, calling it a huge honor for Pakistan. They expressed hope that, like Arshad Nadeem, who won the gold medal in javelin throw at the Paris Olympics, Muhammad Asif will also receive recognition and be rewarded for his achievement.
