Gary Kirsten Exits Over Disagreements, Jason Gillespie Takes Charge for Australia Tour
After Gary Kirsten’s resignation, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed Jason Gillespie as the head coach of the national team for the upcoming tour of Australia. This assignment is currently temporary, but sources indicate that Gillespie could be considered for a permanent position in the future. Kirsten decided to step down following a series of disagreements with the PCB.
One of the major points of contention between Kirsten and the PCB was around team selection and support staff. Kirsten wanted to include David Reid as a mental performance coach in his staff, but the PCB did not approve. Additionally, Kirsten reportedly refused to be in Pakistan for extended periods as per his contract, insisting instead on joining the team a week before any tour or series.
Despite these issues, the PCB stood firm on its policies and declined to meet Kirsten’s demands, leading to his eventual resignation. The board has decided to move forward with Gillespie as the team’s head coach for the Australia series while considering options for a long-term solution
